2008 Buddy Walk Schedule

Gray's Lake Beach/Peninsula - RAIN or SHINE!
9:00 a.m. - T-shirt pickup and late registration
10:00 a.m. - Walk begins with Grand Marshal Chris Burke!
11:00 a.m.-noon - Activities, featuring the Chris Burke Band
Join us on Saturday, August 23 for a day of fun and family at Gray's Lake in Des Moines for the 11th annual Up With Down Support Group Buddy Walk! The Buddy Walk will include a 1.9 mile walk around the lake beginning and ending at the beach area/peninsula. If people can't make the entire loop there will be shuttle stations to pick them up and take them to the starting area. We won't be serving lunch, but families are welcome to pack a picnic lunch or the beach concession stand will be open. Feel free to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs.
We are very excited to announce that this year's walk will feature Chris Burke, an actor with Down syndrome who starred as Corky on the ABC hit TV series, "Life Goes On." Chris will be our Grand Marshal and will also perform with the Chris Burke Band after the walk! Other planned activities include a Kid's Craft Zone, face painting and tattoos, and a merchandise table. This year our silent auction will be held on EBay. Registration includes a t-shirt and activities.

Registration / Donations
Online registration and donations are available from this web site by clicking on "Register/Donate!" from the menu on the left. You can also register by mail through August 1 by going to the Register/Donate page and downloading the registration/donation brochure.
Registration is $8 for adults and children over 5, and $5 for children under 5. August 1, registration costs increase by $2/person and you are not guaranteed a t-shirt. Mail-in registrations must be received by August 1 and online registration will be available through August 20. Day of registration will be available at the walk beginning at 9am.
Mail-in donations should be received by August 23. Online donations can be made throughout the year. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
Directions and Parking
Gray's Lake Park is located in Des Moines south of downtown off of Fleur Drive. Enter at Fleur Drive's north entrance. We will be located at the beach area/peninsula.
Parking is available at Gray's Lake in four parking lots, but is limited to 300 spaces and cannot be reserved. Additional parking is available across Fleur Drive at Waterworks Park. A shuttle will be available to transport people from Waterworks to Gray's Lake beginning at 9:15am.
